We had a chat with Irilda Paja, Concept Hair’s newest Learner of the Month!

The Concept Hair Hairdressing & Barbering Learner of the Month award celebrates students and apprentices who are passionate about the future of the hairdressing & barbering industry, going above and beyond in their apprenticeships to set the standards of the industry.

Concept Hair has launched the award to recognise the efforts that students and apprentices have put into learning the trade.

Irilda, 28, from Gina Conway, was chosen as Learner of the Month by our judge Let Lew after a week of voting and testimonials on Instagram and Facebook.

Let said: “I can see her passion through her work and she is obviously well-loved by colleagues and clients, which is one of the most important things in being a hairdresser.”

The award was sponsored by Indola, who sent Irilda a £100 bundle.

Our runners-up were Rayna Kovacheva from East Durham College, Kim Royle from Leanne’s Hair and Beauty/ Coleg Menai and Sharnia Soden from Panache Hair Salon/ College of West Anglia.

Irilda’s boss, Gina Conway said: “Irilda has always been on the ball as an assistant in the salons, pre-empting what stylists need.

“Her fearless, go-getter attitude means she is already applying highlights with stunning results. She is a shining example of the true nature of our industry.”

Concept Hair: Congratulations Irilda! How does it feel to be the Concept Hair Learner of the Month?

Irilda Paja: It feels very special to be the Apprentice of the Month as all of the apprentices in my academy are very talented. It also reminds me that the hard work pays off.

CH: How long have you been in the hair industry? Have you always worked at Gina Conway?

IP: Ive been working for GC for one year and this is my first time working in a salon.

CH: What made you want to get into the industry?

IP: I love to make people feel beautiful – since I was a child I loved to do my friends’ hair. It gave me such a nice feeling when they were telling me they never had their hair like this before.

CH: What do you love most about it?

IP: When I finish drying the lady’s hair and I can see how happy she is – it gives me such satisfaction to make them feel so special and looking the best version of themselves.

CH: What is your day-to-day role?

IP: As an assistant, my responsibilities are to welcome the client, offer them a drink, give them a massage, wash their hair and I also do blow drys as well. I’m also studying in the GC Academy.

CH: What would you like to achieve in your career?

IP: To be one of the best stylists in the salon and have a relationship of trust with my clients.

CH: What inspires you the most?

IP: Watching stylists in the salon doing hair, and the hair trends I see on social media because they make me try my hardest to achieve these results.

CH: What’s your favourite style at the moment?

IP: Curly blow drys and hair up because I can be creative without changing the colour or the length of the hair.

CH: What about your favourite social media platform?

IP: Instagram -I follow lots of hair profiles and watch many tutorials.

CH: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given in your apprenticeship?

IP: Listen to exactly what the clients want and help them by doing the things that suit them better.
