Competitions (magazine and online)
- Concept Hair Magazine promotions are open to UK residents who are studying for hairdressing and barbering qualifications and/or working in the hairdressing and barbering industry.
- Entry excludes employees of SNG Publishing, members of their families and anyone directly involved with the promotion.
- Entrants are bound by these terms & conditions.
- No purchase necessary. One entry per person. No bulk or third party entries.
- Prizes must be accepted as offered. No cash alternative. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer or promotion.
- Prizes are as described.
- The winner(s) will be selected from correct entries received.
- Winner(s) will be notified within 28 days of the closing date.
- Winner(s) may be required to take part in any publicity resulting from the competition and the promoter reserves the right to feature the name, photograph and details of the prize winner for future promotions.
- If you enter any competitions with sponsors it may be necessary for us to provide your personal information to the promoters of the competition or to others that are involved in the organisation of the competition or the prize-giving.
Learner Of The Month Competition
- We may ask if we can get in touch with your boss or lecturer to verify you are a student/apprentice.
- There is no limit on learners entering from the same college/salon.
- You can enter each new month’s competition but you cannot enter the same image again.
- You can submit entries from your own account, or through a college or salon account if it’s made clear who is entering the award.
- By entering you give us permission to repost your work if chosen in the shortlist picked by our judges.
- A maximum of one image per person will be included in the final shortlist.
Learner Of The Year Competition 2024
General
- The competition is open to all hairdressing and barbering students aged 16 or over working towards the required qualification level on the day of the competition.
- Competition entries are open from September 2023 until 30th November 2023
- Entry to compete in the Concept Hair Learner of the Year is free.
- All applications must be received through the completion of the online application form. This will be sent to you via email.
- The applicant must truthfully and accurately complete the application form. If you supply or have supplied any untruthful, inaccurate, or misleading details and/or information and/or have failed to abide by the Rules the participant may be disqualified.
- All entrants must provide all information required on the application form.
- The organisers will endeavor to confirm your place in your chosen competition; however applications will be dealt with on a first come first served basis.
- The winners of Round 1 must be prepared to take part in the Grand Final, taking place in March 2024.
- Strictly no under 16’s will be allowed admission to any stages of the competition.
- The models used during the competition must be 16 or over.
- All competitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult if they successfully make it through to the live stage of the competition. Preferably their employer, their lecturer or a parent, but not essential so long as the person accompanying is 18 or over.
- If product application is carried out at any point during the competition, the model must have had an allergy test 48 hours before the application.
- At any point in the competition, entrants must be prepared to answer questions from the Judges and the Concept Hair Team about their technique and the products used.
- Each stage of the competition will be judged by a minimum of 3 hairdressing industry leaders selected by Concept Hair.
- The competitors must demonstrate they are able to follow the brief.
- The Judges’ decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into regarding any decisions.
- Entrants and models grant Concept Hair with a transferrable, exclusive, worldwide, royalty free and perpetual license in all copyright, moral or other rights under the Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 to use the photos and any materials, videos and images submitted or generated during the Concept Hair Learner of the Year competition (whether they proceed to the Grand Final or not) for any purpose whatsoever (including without limitation, use on the Concept Hair Website, social media pages, promotion of the Concept Hair Learner of the Year events, PR content print and online, editorial, advertising and advertorial content, trade press and future competition promotion print and online and educational or internal purposes, etc.)
- The entrants and their colleges/employers may use the official competition photographs.
- The prizes are as stated on the day of the competition and there are no alternatives or cash substitutes.
- If the prize is declined or if the winner forfeits the prize under these terms and conditions, then the judges may at their absolute discretion select an alternative winner.
- English and Welsh law applies and the English and Welsh courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any proceedings in connection with this competition.

Round 1: Photographic Entries
- Competitors are encouraged to work on live models where possible.
- Participants will submit photographic entries for Round 1. The deadline for entries into Round 1 is 15th December 2023. The organisers have the discretion to allow late entries only if there are available places.
- The winners of Round 1 will compete in the live final in March 2024 and will be notified by 1st February 2024.
Live Final
- All competitors are encouraged to arrive to watch the whole event, however, they must arrive at least 1 hour before their competition start time on the day of the final at the venue to register with Concept Hair.
- If the competitor has not registered with Concept Hair an hour before their start time, Concept Hair may decide to disqualify the competitor.
- All competitors must ensure their equipment is PAT tested, this will be checked at the start of the competition.
- Competitors will be allocated a table number and must work at this table.
- Competitors will start and finish work as instructed by the Judges.
- Competitors who arrive late for their competition will not receive additional time support.
- Competitors must work on live models.
- Competitors entering the Avant-Garde category must supply a copy of their mood board on the day.
- If during the competition a competitor feels they must leave their work area (e.g. medical reasons, toilet break), they will have the time recorded on a ‘time out’ sheet by a member of staff.
- No mobile telephones are allowed on the competition floor.
- Photographs will be taken during the event that may be used for marketing/publicity purposes – if the competitor/support staff cannot have their photo taken it is the responsibility of the college entering the competition to notify the organisers beforehand and at the event.
- If there is a power stoppage, breakdown of equipment or accident, the competitors must act according to the instructions of the organiser.
- The competitors name must correspond to the name submitted on the application form. Concept Hair will only deviate from this rule in the case of exceptional circumstances, to be determined at Concept Hair’s sole discretion.
- Models should be dressed prior to the competition start.
- During each competition, only the stylist and model must be at their tables on the competition floor. If they are not at the table at this time, this could result in disqualification.
- Once the model and stylist have entered the competition floor, the model’s state of hair cannot change and the stylist cannot touch the hair until the competition starts. Unless this is in the allocated time to remove pin set curls.
- No smoking, food or drinks, except water, are allowed on the competition floor.
- Cutting will be allowed on the competition floor if the specific category rules allow it.
- Competitors must finish their look within the time allotted for their competition.
- The model must stand during the judging, if they are able to do so. The judges are allowed to move the model in order to judge different angles and the models may be cat walked to assess their animation.
- The model will be photographed and videoed during the judging.
- Once the judging is complete, all competitors and models will need to leave the competition floor.
- We do not offer individual feedback at or after the event.
- Models do not have to be professional.
- The clothes, makeup and accessories should enhance and complement the overall look that the colourist and hair stylist have created.
- During the Concept Hair Learner of the Year, you and all others in your party agree to adhere to the rules and regulations of the venue.
- You and all others in your party must comply with all safety announcements and venue regulations whilst attending the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final.
- You must not enter the competition floor unless you are competing or are a competitor’s model in the category taking place.
- Please note that the venue management and Concept Hair accept no responsibility for any loss, damage or theft of personal property taken into the Concept Hair Learner of the Year venues.
- Time allowance per theme at the Live final will be: Styling Level 1 – 40 minutes, Styling Level 2 – 30 minutes, Hair Up Level 2 – 40 minutes, Hair Up Level 3 – 30 minutes, Barbering Level 2 – 45 minutes, Barbering Level 3 – 35 minutes, Colouring – 5 minutes, Textured Hair – 40 minutes, Avant-Garde – 45 minutes
Admission
- To gain entry to the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final event, you must be pre-registered, and your name must be on the registration list on the day of the event. This includes all competitors, models, college staff, employers and spectators. Concept Hair reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone attempting to gain entry without prior registration.
- By attending the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final, you agree to comply with any age restrictions that apply at the venue, as well as the laws and regulations of England and Wales.
- The right to admission to the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final is reserved by Concept Hair and the venue, who may take health and safety, environmental and security concerns into account, and may carry out security searches. You consent to such searches and waive any related claims that may arise from such a search. If you elect not to consent to being searched, you may be denied entry to the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final.
Notice of Cancellation
- SNG Publishing reserves the right in its absolute discretion to, acting in the interests of fairness, add to or waive any of these terms and conditions. SNG Publishing reserves the right to cancel the competition at any stage, in the event of circumstances arising beyond its reasonable control.
- By entering this competition, entrants will be deemed to be bound by and have accepted these terms and conditions.
- Please note that the venue management and SNG Publishing accept no responsibility for any loss, damage or theft of personal property taken into the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final venues.
- SNG Publishing reserves the right in its absolute discretion to disqualify any individual who conducts themselves in any manner that may bring Concept Hair, its sponsors or its affiliates into disrepute. This includes, but is not limited to, bullying or aggressive behaviour towards others (for example only, threats or violence towards members of staff, crew, other entrants and/or venue staff), racism, homophobia, misogyny, transphobia, religious intolerance.
- Save in respect of fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation and of personal injury or death to the extent it results from Concept Hair’s negligence, in no event will Concept Hair be liable to you or any third party for any direct, special, indirect, consequential or incidental damages, exemplary or lost profits, or any other damages of any kind whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, even if Concept Hair has been advised of the possibility thereof, arising in connection with the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final.
- We will not be liable to you for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, even if foreseeable, arising under or in connection with:
– attendance at, or inability to attend the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final (including without limitation travel costs, travel related expenses or accommodation costs);
– use of or reliance on any content displayed or otherwise communicated at the Concept Hair Learner of the Year Grand Final.
School Spotlight Award 2024
General
- The competition is open to learners that are attending a school in the UK or a private training provider if they are under 16.
- Competition entries are open from 1st September 2023 and will close at 5pm on 2nd April 2024.
- Entry to compete in the Concept Hair School Spotlight Award is free.
- All entries must be received through the completion of the online entry form, which will be sent to you once the school has registered for the competition.
- All entrants must have a signed permission letter from a parent or guardian in order to be accepted into the competition. Concept Hair will provide a copy of the letter to the school.
- All entry forms must be submitted by a teacher or representative from the school and they must truthfully and accurately complete all required fields. If you supply or have supplied any untruthful, inaccurate or misleading details and/or information and/or have failed to abide by the Rules or Brief the participant may be disqualified.
- After submission, the entrant cannot be changed unless the organisers agree. This will be determined at Concept Hair’s sole discretion.
- Entrants and their schools grant Concept Hair with a transferrable, exclusive, worldwide, royalty free and perpetual license in all copyright, moral or other rights under the Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 to use the photos and any materials, videos and images submitted or generated during the Concept Hair School Spotlight Award for any purpose whatsoever (including without limitation, use on the Concept Hair Website, Concept Hair social media pages, promotion of the Concept Hair School Spotlight Award, PR content print and online, editorial, advertising and advertorial content, trade press and competition promotion print and online and educational or internal purposes, etc.)
- The prizes are as stated and there are no alternatives or cash substitutes.
- By entering learners into the competition the school gives permission for Concept Hair to share the teacher/school details related to the competition, with competition partners and sponsors in instances where prizes are to be posted.
- If the prize is declined or if the winner forfeits the prize under these terms and conditions, then the judges may at their absolute discretion select an alternative winner.
- We will not use or disclose your personal information for any other purpose which is not related (or in the case of sensitive information, directly related) to the competition without your consent unless otherwise authorised, required or permitted under the laws of England and Wales. We do not sell your date to third parties.
- English and Welsh law applies and the English and Welsh courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any proceedings in connection with this competition.

Photographic Entries
- Competitors must complete their work on a training head.
- Competitors must complete a mood board to accompany their look.
- Only 1 entry is allowed per competitor.
- The deadline for entries is 31st March 2024. The organisers have the discretion to allow late entries only if there are available places.
- The competition will be judged by a minimum of 3 hairdressing industry partners selected by Concept Hair.
- The competitors must demonstrate they are able to follow the brief.
- The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding any decisions.
