Ambitious hairdressers and barbers got the chance to show off what they have learnt in their studios over this academic year, as Telford College hosted its popular annual competition.
With new categories and more students taking part than ever before, the competition this year has been named the biggest yet.
This is Telford College’s fifth hairdressing and barbering competition, involving 65 hairdressing and barbering students.
The categories this year consisted of Avant Garde, Glam Night Out, Carnival, Festival and Current Gents Cut and Finish for the barbering students.
As always, the Avant Garde models stood out from the rest due to their bright, out-of-the-ordinary hairstyles, outfits and makeup.
Miranda Leaver, 18, is on a Level 3 vocational course and was competing in the Avant Garde category and said: “The competition has been quite nerve-wracking for me this year, it takes so much preparation and practising for the big day, but overall an enjoyable experience.”
Sophie-Leigh Jones, 16, competed in the Carnival theme. She said: “The competition for me has been really exciting and the theme that we have chosen allows me to make an elaborate hairstyle to make my model stand out from everyone else.”
Hairdressing Lecturer, Kerrie Treharne said: “As always, the students are somewhat nervous about competing in the competition but I feel that it always comes together on that day.
“I am particularly impressed with the standard of work from all the students this year as they were given the brief and categories in October and have worked hard ever since producing their mood boards and getting their own resources for the big day.
“I and Tara Bali (hairdressing lecturer) couldn’t be prouder of all the students who have taken part in the competition year after year and always improve on their hairdressing skills.”
