Meet May’s Learner of the Month Winner!

Emily Wood won the May Concept Hair Learner of the Month award – we caught up with her to find out what it means to win.

19-year-old Emily has been working in the hair industry for the last 6 years, and currently works as a Stylist at Safy B’s Hair Salon where she gained incredible knowledge and experience of hair, cutting and colouring techniques.

Emily is completing her hairdressing qualification with Span Training and Development and has her final EPA exam at the end of this month, after which she will be fully qualified!

“I wanted to become involved in the hair industry to bring as much beauty to people and the world as possible. There are so many opportunities within the hair industry to grow and meet incredibly talented people. The thing I love most about working in this industry is having my amazing clients and meeting so many different people every single day.

When asked to tell us more about her entry, Emily said “I entered this image for the award because it is the colour that I am most proud of. I took my client from grown-out brassy foils to a beautiful ice blonde balayage, and she was in love with her new hair transformation.”

Emily has won the Sericite Wide Iron from Cloud Nine and she explained that she can’t wait to use it on her own hair to practice new styles.

Emily’s day-to-day role in the salon includes working as a team, working with clients to achieve their hair goals, creating beautiful hair cutting and colouring, and letting her creative side take over. However, she has big aspirations for the future, “During my career, I would love to travel the world with hairdressing as I love the achievement when people are able to recognise my work.”

Where does Emily get her inspiration from? “I am continually inspired looking through other stylist’s work from around the world on Instagram and other Social Media platforms, and what they have achieved. I love looking through hair magazines and picking up inspiration from professional shoots.”

Finally, Emily stated that she is honoured to be the Concept Hair Learner of the month, “I love that my work has been picked against the competition,  it feels incredible and is very motivating”

Congratulations, Emily! Entries are now open for the June award, with the Matrix UnBreak My Blonde starter kit on offer to the winner.

To enter, hair and barbering students and apprentices must tag us in a photo of their work on social media and use #ConceptHairLOTM. Our judges’ favourites (up to a maximum of eight) then go to a public vote at the end of the month before a winner is crowned. For full entry info, click here.
