Meet January’s Concept Hair Learner of the Month winner!

Lauren Askew won the January Concept Hair Learner of the Month award – we caught up with her to find out what it means to win.

Lauren, an 18 year old Barbering apprentice from Solihull college has collected the most amount of public votes, combined with Judges votes making her January’s Learner of the Month winner and receiving a £100 Indola product bundle.

Lauren created her favourite look for the competition, a skin fade with a textured top.

Lauren has been in the hair industry for 2 and a half years, explaining that the reason behind it is that “There’s always something new to learn. Everyone has their own style and there are so many different techniques”.  She currently spends 1 day a week in college and the rest of the week working in the barbershop. The satisfaction of knowing you’ve made someone happy by giving them a haircut they really like is her favourite part of the job.

What is the best piece of advice Lauren has ever received? “Your next haircut will be better than the last, don’t give up, you never stop learning”

When asked what inspires her the most, Lauren answered “My friends and family as I wouldn’t be where I am without them!”.  In the future, she aspires to have celebrity clients at her own shop or using her own brand.

Congratulations Lauren!  Entries are now open for the February award, with a WAHL Beretto Clipper on offer to the winner!

To enter, hair and barbering students and apprentices must tag us in a photo of their work on social media and use #ConceptHairLOTM. Our judges’ favourites (up to a maximum of eight) then go to a public vote at the end of the month before a winner is crowned. For full entry info, click here.
