Phoebe Mclavy will go head-to-head with Europe’s best in January – as she has been selected to represent Team UK in the EuroSkills.
Phoebe, a Concept Hair Learner of the Month winner and Concept Hair Apprentice of the Year 2020 runner-up, will join thirteen other apprentices selected by WorldSkills UK in Austria in January.
More than 500 competitors will take part from 27 countries, with hairdressing being one of 45 disciplines being competed in.
Phoebe, who is being trained and mentored by Linzi Weare, WorldSkills UK Training Manager and Salon Director at Reds Hair Company, has already represented the UK at WorldSkills Kazan 2019, known as the ‘skills Olympics’.
At this competition she was named one of the world’s top hairdressing stylists winning the Bronze Medal. Gold was awarded to China and the Silver Medal to Russia.
Phoebe will continue to train under the guidance of Linzi to prepare for the EuroSkills Competition.
She said: “I am totally honoured to be selected to represent the UK at EuroSkills.
“Training in lockdown hasn’t been easy but we have adapted our preparations and I’m so excited to build on my success at WorldSkills last year and compete against the best young hairdressers across Europe.
“Everything I learn in competition is transferable to my role at Reds, I am continually pushing myself to be the best stylist I can be.”
Linzi Weare added: “Preparation for EuroSkills hasn’t been easy, but Phoebe has been totally committed to her training. At international competition, and at work, being smart and confident in your timing and processes is the key to success and I know that Phoebe will deliver a performance at EuroSkills that we can all be proud of.
“She is a great ambassador for our industry.”
