Concept Hair Learner of the Year 2021

From over 1,000 applications for Concept Hair Learner of the Year 2021, the category and competition winners have now been revealed!

 

Below are the 2021 winners of each of the 8 categories, as well as the Fellowship for British Hairdressing Spotlight Award winner and overall Learner of the Year! Also pictured are this year’s shortlisted finalists.

 

We were blown away by the exceptionally high standard of work, and everyone who entered should be incredibly proud to be representing their college in this year’s competition.

The first-ever School Spotlight Award winners have been revealed!

Level 1

Competition rules and guidelines

Level 1 Styling – Festival Hair

Level 2 Styling – Festival Hair

Our styling competitions are inspired by Festival Season – think unique boho chic that you can wear all day and dance with through the night!

Hair can be styled up or down, or a combination of both

Before photos must show the model’s hair dry to start

You can use ornamentation and accessories but these can make up no more than 30% of the overall style

You may not use added hair or hair pieces

Level 2 Hair Up – Red Carpet

Level 3 Hair Up – Red Carpet

Dazzle us with your red carpet updos and stand out from the crowd during this awards season. 

Use any styling tools you wish

Before photos must show that no plaits, twists or crimping

At least 80% of the hair must be up

You can use added hair, but this should make up no more than 30% of the style

Ornamentation can be used

Level 2 Barbering – Old School Barbershop

Level 3 Barbering – Old School Barbershop

Take inspiration from the timeless classic barbershop looks through the ages.

All styling tools, cutting tools and products are allowed

Hair must be cut from wet, blow dried and styled

A minimum of 2cm must be cut from the whole head

Model must not wear a hat

Please note that Barbering Hair Professional HB2D3 learners will be entered into the Level 3 competition.

All Levels Colouring – Celebration of Colour

Let your imagine run wild and show us your best use of colour

Levels 2 & 3 Avant-Garde – Safari

For our Avant-Garde competition, we want to see your most wild and spectacular creations!

All styling products and tools are allowed, including heated equipment

Added and pre-prepared hair is allowed, but must not cover more than 50% of the entire finished head

No wigs are allowed

Model may have permanent hair extensions

Before photos must show model’s hair without preparation of the styling element (e.g. plaits and twists)
