Talented young hairstylists created striking looks that wowed judges in the annual photographic hairdressing competition finals organised by Central Hairdressing Academy and Joshua Galvin Academy.
The competition attracted a record number of entries with apprentices from across Essex, London and Hertfordshire submitting photographic entries to be considered by first-round judges including super stylists Anne Veck and Gianni Scumaci.
In total, 30 competitors were chosen to go through to the grand final held at the Wella Studio in London where they had to recreate their look in readiness for a grand catwalk show hosted by Edward Hemmings of Alan d Hairdressing.
Choosing either an Avant-Garde or a What’s Hot look, the hairdressers had to create an overall look that included clothes styling and make-up. The results produced on the day were stunning with amazing hairstyles often accompanied by incredibly intricate costumes.
Kevin Day, Academy Principal at Alan d Hairdressing, was one of the live final judges and he described the work as ‘some of the best’ he had seen at any hair competitions.
He was especially impressed by the ambitious work that was successfully accomplished by the youngest entrants into the Avant Garde category.
He added: “If they can achieve this kind of work at the earliest stage of their careers, then the styles they will be producing later will be something really special.
“Judging this competition has made me feel that, right now, our industry is in a great place in terms of young talent, enthusiasm and commitment.”
High praise also went to two former Central learners, Tyler Peters and Lillie Sutton, who took to the stage to demonstrate barbering and styling skills that have led them to enjoy hugely successful careers.
